What to write for Mother's Day??

If I was really smart, I would've saved the Olympics + Moms = Tears post for today - I could've written a few more nice, touching things about moms and checked Mother's Day off my list. But no. So now I'm left staring at a blank page, desperately trying to think of something witty to write about moms in general, or my mom in particular.

I can't just ignore Mother's Day on my blog. My mom's my most loyal reader and always thinks what I've written is great. I love how she often calls me from work in the morning to tell me she just read my latest post. Or sometimes she'll tell me in person when she comes for a visit every Friday. It started when Ryan was born and she came to help out and so I could sleep. It's a year later and I still look forward to her visits every week. Nowadays I rarely nap when she's here, but I still enjoy the yummy lunches she brings and the conversation, crafts and cups of tea while Ryan naps.

Maybe I could write a poem, or one of those things where you put the letters MOTHER down the side of the page and then write a sentence to go with each letter. I'd have to work in that I think she's one of the kindest and most generous people I know, how she's a good listener, that I really do appreciate her advice even if I don't always take it right away, how much I enjoy her company, how thankful I am for how she's welcomed Brad into our family, and that she's a true Blue Jays fan.

A video would be great, but I've left this to the last minute (surprise, surprise), so it would be too late to get clips of her playing with Ryan, reading to Ella, our many trips to Florida, holidays and all those Saturday nights we go over for dinner "just because." It's a shame we didn't have a video camera (or should I say camcorder) when I was growing up, because then I could've included clips of my mom making my brother and I home made birthday cakes, morning car pools and driving us to all our various activities, family vacations, and even that time when she went on strike, which I so understand now.

But I'm out of time and ideas. Oh well, guess I'll just have to get some flowers and a card and say "I love you, mom!"

  1. She went on strike?! We're allowed to strike????????? I thought mothers had been designated an essential service centuries ago. Please tell us about the strike!

    1. As far as I can remember, she just got fed up with us not helping out and not appreciating all the work she did, so she went on strike and left us to fend for ourselves, regardless of what her union told her.

I'll do some more digging and report back.
